Russia really started off the World Cup with a bang, blowing out Saudi Arabia 5-0 in front of 78,011 fans. The old stadium from 1956 was shaking as Russia continued to rattle in goals. Denis Cheryshev scored twice and Iury Gazinsky, Artem Dzyuba, Aleksandr Golovin helped with a goal. In goal for Russia, Igor Akinfeev made two saves and put up a shutout. Although the Russians were great, they were not perfect. They committed 22 fouls and also only had the ball for 41% of the time. Still, the home team looks to become a threat in this year’s World Cup. Highlights below.
