The UConn Women’s basketball team lost their first game in 865 days on Friday. And this isn’t April Fools. Mississippi State played against UConn in the Final Four. The last time these two teams faced off in March Madness, in the Sweet 16. This game was won by UConn 98-38, in a game where Mississippi State scored four points in the first quarter and twelve in the first half.  That game was the biggest win ever in the regionals. Mississippi State (34-4) started this year’s rematch against UConn (36-1) with a great first quarter, heading into the second quarter up 22-13. UConn was a little worried heading into the second half, because at the end of the first half, they were still down 36-28. Could the unthinkable happen? Maybe not. UConn started  the third quarter on a 12-3 run, finally taking the lead for the first time all game with 6:13 left in the third. After that, the game flip-flopped until the third quarter ended with the score tied at 48. It didn’t seem that Mississippi State could pull off this upset. The game kept having ties until with four minutes left in the game, the Bulldogs (Mississippi State) took a four point lead. UConn called a timeout, and came out of the timeout on a 7-0 run. Mississippi State rallied, though, and with 28 seconds left, Napheesha went to the line with two shots with the Bulldogs in the lead, 60-59. She missed the first, then made the second to tie it and there was no more scoring for the rest of regulation. The Bulldogs got ahead 64-62, in overtimebut Dominique Dillingham had a Flagrant 1 foul, sending Katie Lou Samuelson to the line with two shots. She proceeded to make them both, tying the game at 64 with 27 seconds left in OT. Morgan William dribbled the clock down and then pulled up to make this shot:

William was only at 11 points in 44 minutes before this play, but it made her a hero. Mississippi State will play the South Carolina Gamecocks in the finals tomorrow at six on ESPN. This will be a great matchup.

It is amazing that Mississippi State could pull this off, and who do you think will win in the finals? Comment your opinion.
